Ideal Home Magazine Feature July 2017

You may remember at the end of last year I had a visit from the very lovely photographer Colin Poole.  Colin spent the day at my home photographing it for Idea Home Magazine.

It went to print at the beginning of June for the July 2017 edition.   I found out via a friend on Facebook, who saw the feature when she received her monthly subscription.  It took me a few more days to finally get my hands on a copy when it appeared in the shops !

I have to say its an odd sensation to see yourself and your home in print in a glossy magazine, although I think they missed a trick by not showing the utility room  renovated by my husband from the outside coal shed and loo, but overall they did a great job.  some of the quotes I certainly wouldn’t have said but, I suppose its all open to interpretation.

These photographs are some of the shots that didn’t make the cut.

I particularly like this one.  Think it would have been more me if they had left in the re-loved chairs at each end though.  My whole style has been developed out of necessity.  Almost without exception, everything in my home has been bought on a budget or upcycled by myself or my husband.  I felt it was really important  this feature should reflect that.  I want to show you can have a nice home and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune., it just takes time and thought.

Time for tea !

A bedroom shot.

The living room.

Everything in this room has either been made by my husband (the footstool and the bookcase and cupboard below) or bought second hand via a bootsales or charity shops , or in the case of the sofa, a review item through blogging. The only item purchased at full value is the painting by a local Cornish artist which was our house warming gift to each other when we married 14 years ago.

The cover of the current edition should you wish to take a look at the whole article for yourself.

The front garden clearly needs some work.  Maybe a job for next year I think !

Get my style !

I love your utility room – saw it when you first did it – the barn door is so cool – they missed a trick there

I totally agree Pandy. I was so disappointed when I showed the photographer the room and he didn't photograph it. My husband did such an amazing job transforming those two damp outside rooms to what it is now. Ahh well xx

Looks stunning Karen. Such a beautiful home. And you're so lucky to have such a handy husband. No idea how you manage to keep a white home looking so immaculately clean in a house full of men though.

Thank you Stacey. I am so lucky to have such an amazing husband, don't worry its not always immaculate and white. Its a constant struggle of putting toilet seats down and wiping walls ! xx

Great to see your home and you in the magazine! You can tell how much love and thought has gone into creating everything around you, and when you say its all been done on a budget its even more inspiring for me, Karen X (PS love your utility room – that was one of the first things I saw of yours!)

Thank you Susie, if I had my way it would all be white but have to let the husband have some input ! x

It was great to see you and your home in the pages of Ideal Home! Your home looks stunning and I'm amazed to read that your husband made so many of the pieces and it was all completed to such a high standard on a budget. You should feel very proud!

It looks great. They did show the cupboard with the washing machine in it – or part of it. I think it gives the idea and shows the barn door. What a lovely memento of your house to keep and what an honour to be chosen for it. Ideal Home is definitely the best of the 'Home' magazines.

Congratulations on the feature and I love your home, how the stark white is softened by the pastels and greys. I like how you have achieved such an expensive look but on a budget, my partner and I have just bought our first home and are trying to be thrifty xx

Well done, what a great write up and it looks stunning. I wanted white when we moved home but my husband insisted on magnolia – it's fine though as I'm sure I wouldn't have pulled off the white look any where near as well as you have!

Your home is just stunning! I'm a sucker for a white interior. You definitely have a gift for making a white space look cozy and inviting.
