Browsing twitter recently, I came across the beautiful Swedish brand House of Rym. A wonderful collaboration between Tunisian traditional craftsmanship and upcoming Scandinavian designers. I’ve always had a bit of an obsession with Swedish design and a real love for Tunisia so I was really interested to read more about the brand.
HOUSE OF RYM WAS BUILT ON A LOVE AFFAIR. BETWEEN CONTEMPORARY DESIGN AND ANCIENT HANDCRAFT. BETWEEN SWEDEN AND TUNISIA. BETWEEN INTRIGUING AESTHETICS AND SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS.
Founders Rym Tounsi & Zied Youseff
Offering a feast for the eyes for all the rooms of your home including beautifully designed items for children, House of Rym is pure delight. I particularly love the colours (I know, me, Mrs White) and the patterns. I know I probably shouldn’t say this but, I’m reminded of the Moomins.
The vast selection of colourful Foutas (Hammam towels) were the starting point for the collaboration of Swedish designers Anna Backlund and Elisabeth Dunker with House of Rym. The designers were approached separately by the founders of the company with an offer to design. This lead to a trip to Tunisia and a chance conversation about their interest in working with porcelain and before they knew it, they were standing in the middle of a porcelain plant in the middle of the desert planning a whole collection, not just towels !
Sadly there is only one store at the moment in the UK but the website is full of must have treasure, much of it on sale! Well, it would be rude not to …..
