For me, a picnic hamper exemplifies what Summer is about. We have certainly had the weather this year to get maximum use from one. Living in Devon usually means lots of days out and trips to the beach, but unfortunately as someone who lives about 10 miles from the nearest beach, this can mean a drive of up to an hour in the summer time due to the amount of tourist traffic.
I was delighted to receive the Luxury Greenfield Collection Cheltenham willow picnic hamper from Wayfair and couldn’t wait to put it to use. As I now have teenage boys and a 23 year old who rarely want to go out with me, I decided I would set up the hamper in the garden for a lovely tea when my husband came home from work.
The Cheltenham hamper is designed to cater for four and has plenty of space for enough food for four people. The hamper is made from robust willow but is also not too heavy to carry even when laden with goodies. It has real leather straps and gold accents which adds to the feeling of quality and security. Open it up and it has a lovely navy and white ticking interior. I particularly like the fact that it has chains which prop the lid open. Most of the items within the hamper are secured by the sturdy leather straps, no nasty accidents with items falling out or bouncing around loose in the hamper.
The plates are quality china and the cutlery is stainless steel which is a vast improvement over plastic and adds to the experience of alfresco dining, There is a quality bottle opener and salt and pepper containers are an added bonus.
I love that the china cups are secured in a removable willow basket and attached with elasticated straps to the hamper. The hamper also comes with a food storage container that has a really secure lid. I often find that these plastic containers have poor quality lids that come loose and do not keep the food fresh. This one is really good quality. You also get a small cool bag which is ideal for cans of drink, salad or other foods you want to keep cool and fresh. Its also big enough to pop a frozen cool pack in to really help keep items cold.
There is also a matching good size blue and white ticking blanket suitable for outdoor use, it would also double as a great table cloth as it is made from a wipeable fabric with a plastic backing.
Have to say hubby was a little bemused to arrive home to his tea laid out in the back garden, but he seemed to appreciate the effort and the thought. I’m just looking forward to September when I can pack my gorgeous hamper up and head off to the beach to enjoy a quieter Devon.
